In other words, some were apparently designed or updated with newer versions of Windows in mind, while others were not, and HotSync Manager couldn't cope with this as I had installed everything. I'm not sure what exactly triggered the switch each time (I don't think it was just the admin rights issue as I at first suspected), but I think it had to do with some of my Palm applications being older than others. I realized that something about my Palm setup was causing my Palm user directory to switch between C:\Program Files\Palm\Username and C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Palm\Username, which led to duplicate records, missing records, and general HotSync problems.
I found a solution that has worked for me. I've found it to be very fast, and I have yet to find an old Windows application that it won't run. I haven't heard much talk about the 32-bit version of Windows 10, but I love it. Once the conduits are set up, there doesn't seem to be any need to run anything in compatibility mode or as an administrator. The only trouble I had was settting up the HotSync conduits for some Palm OS apps with desktop counterparts, but in every case I was able to get the conduit installed by temporarily running the counterpart application in Windows XP compatibility mode.

I now have all of my stuff both on the phone and on the Windows 10 machine, complete with birthday reminders in the calendar. I'm happy to report that I installed the software, did a HotSync and everything went just fine. Since some handy features (like birthday reminders in the calendar) disappeared in that version, after setting up 32-bit Windows 10 I decided to try using Palm Desktop 4.2, the version that came with my Centro. I used to sync my Palm Centro on a 32-bit Vista machine running Palm Desktop 6.2.

However, although the USB port was selected in HotSync Manager, that application opened my serial port, so I could not then use my modem until I manually turned HotSync off. After installing the Palm Desktop (version 2.1) and associated software from Handspring's CD, I was able to successfully synch the Visor to my Mac Beige G3 (w/ Entrega 2-port USB card and OS 9). Just received my Handspring Visor Deluxe. Brian Shaw reports a problems with using Palm Desktop 2.5 on the new Handspring Visor Deluxe PDA:
